Hello everyone,

First, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming support we received during the Suicide Prevention Campaign “The Change the Narrative”. Your commitment to raising awareness and sparking important conversations has had a lasting impact. Together, we were able to make a difference by bringing attention to a topic that so often goes unspoken. Thank you for standing with us in this crucial effort.

As we shift our focus to our next campaign, I am excited to announce that “It’s Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace: The Change Starts with Me” was officially kicked off on October 3rd. This campaign is a call to action for every one of us because building a mentally healthy workplace is not only a responsibility but a necessity in today’s world.

“Together, we can turn awareness into action, and action into lasting change.”

Let’s continue this journey with the belief that mental health is not just a topic for discussion, but a commitment we uphold every day. The change starts with me, with you, and with all of us.

Thank you once again for your support. Let’s make this campaign one to remember.

Warm regards,
Erinda Shah, Managing Director, MHFA India

A Month of Action: Suicide Prevention Campaign Success

Welcome to the September edition of the MHFA India Newsletter, where we celebrate the launch and success of our impactful Suicide Prevention Campaign. This month has been a journey of conversations, community engagement, and life-changing results, thanks to each one of you.

The Campaign Launch

On September 1st, 2024, we kicked off the MHFA India Suicide Prevention Campaign with a clear goal: to bring real change by starting conversations around mental health and suicide prevention. We invited MHFA Aiders, the public, and organizations to take part, asking everyone to reach out to one or more people daily and talk about this crucial subject. Over the course of the month, the response has been overwhelming, proving that our community is ready to make a difference.

The Impact of Conversations

Every week, participants were guided through meaningful tasks designed to encourage open discussions about suicide prevention. The conversation topics, ranging from "Suicide Prevention Starts with Me" to "Stigma Shouldn’t Stop You from Seeking Help," have helped break the silence that often surrounds mental health issues. Many people have shared that these conversations led to more openness, with others expressing relief and appreciation for the support.

A few highlights include:

Increased Awareness: Thousands of conversations have taken place across workplaces, homes, and communities. People are more comfortable discussing mental health, showing a shift in the stigma that often surrounds these issues.

Community Support: Our hashtag, #MHFAINDIA, was used widely across social media, where Aiders and participants shared their experiences, inspiring others to take action.

Positive Change: Feedback from participants showed that many felt empowered by the campaign to start discussions they had previously avoided. Some even reported that people they spoke to sought professional help as a result.

 Results and Feedback

The most significant outcome of the campaign has been the personal stories of change. People from all walks of life shared how these conversations impacted their relationships and outlook on mental health. Here’s some of the feedback we’ve received:

“This campaign gave me the tools I needed to talk to my colleague about his struggles. He told me he hadn’t felt comfortable speaking up before.”

“The weekly tasks helped me start tough conversations with friends who had been avoiding the topic of suicide. Now, we’ve promised to check in regularly.”

 Creating Lasting Change

This campaign has shown us that change is possible when we take the time to start meaningful conversations. It isn’t just about awareness; it’s about building a community of support where people feel safe talking about mental health. As we move forward, we encourage everyone to continue these conversations, even beyond the campaign. Suicide prevention is a year-round responsibility, and the difference starts with each of us.

Thank You for Your Participation

We are deeply grateful for the dedication and compassion each of you has shown during this campaign. Together, we have built a ripple effect of awareness and support, proving that change starts with action. Thank you for being part of this life-saving initiative.

Looking Ahead

The work doesn’t stop here. We encourage you to continue sharing your stories and spreading awareness. Keep tagging us on social media with #MHFAINDIA, and let’s continue to make mental health a priority in every community.

Together, we can make a difference.

Stay tuned for more updates and events coming in the following months!

Campaign Introduction: It’s Time to Prioritize Mental Health at the Workplace: The Change Starts with Me

We have kick-started our October campaign in celebration of World Mental Health Day, themed "It’s Time to Prioritize Mental Health at the Workplace." Mental health is a critical issue in today’s workplace, and it’s time to take action.

MHFA India is launching "The Change Starts with Me," a campaign designed to empower every employee to prioritize mental well-being. Through open dialogue and shared resources, we aim to create supportive environments where mental health is valued alongside physical health.

Why MHFA India is Leading This Campaign

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) India is leading this campaign because we’ve witnessed firsthand the growing need for mental health support in workplaces. Benefits of the Campaign:

Promotes open mental health dialogue, reducing stigma.
Empower employees to recognize mental health issues.
Boosts well-being and productivity.
Strengthens team dynamics and improves retention.
The Campaign is live now. Join us, lead the change, and prioritize mental health because change starts with you!

How MHFA Training is Transforming Workplace Mental Health

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training equips employees with the skills to recognize and support colleagues experiencing mental health challenges. It goes beyond just a one-time session, it’s a transformative approach that builds a supportive and mentally healthy workplace. Here are the key takeaways:

Accredited Training: MHFA is accredited by recognized global mental health bodies and adapted to local needs, including in India. Certified participants are equipped to provide support during crises.

Ongoing Support: Organizations should offer refresher courses, peer support groups, and access to mental health professionals to ensure MHFAiders continue learning and feel supported.

Beyond Training: Transforming Workplace Culture: MHFA doesn’t end with certification. It transforms the workplace by fostering an open culture where mental health conversations are normalized, reducing stigma, and encouraging early intervention. This shift promotes a healthier, more inclusive work environment.

Impact on Workplace Well-being: With MHFAiders in the workplace, employees feel supported, improving morale and reducing absenteeism. Early intervention and crisis management are key benefits.

Continued Development: Supporting MHFAs through resources, mentorship, and recognition programs ensures they remain effective and committed to promoting mental health in the workplace.

MHFA transforms not just individuals but the entire workplace, creating a culture of mental well-being that benefits everyone.
